Aphasia: Not Confident

For me, aphasia feels isolating. It’s hard to be in a social group where conversation moves rapidly while my brain is still processing slowly.

Sometimes it feels like I’m editing a paper or an email. I read through it carefully, scan the words, then type out a response and send it back. Inside my mind, it’s like I’m sitting in a small cubicle, reviewing one page at a time.

When I’m halfway through, I notice there are more pages waiting. I set them aside to focus on the first one. But once I finish that page, I realize there are ten more piled up.

That’s what conversations can feel like — by the time I process one thought, several more have already arrived.
