My Journey into Data Science

I’m excited to share a new chapter of my journey — my transition into data science.

I originally earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, but at the time, there weren’t many opportunities for new math graduates in Alaska. I tried teaching, but quickly realized it wasn’t the right path for me. I then pursued graduate school for a couple of years before ultimately deciding to shift directions and enter the trades.

Working in welding and electrical over the past several years has been a rewarding experience, providing me with stability and a good life. However, in 2017, while working as an electrical apprentice, I suffered a major stroke at the age of 32.
It was a life-changing event that forced me to re-evaluate everything.

It took two years of intense recovery to regain the functionality I needed to return to work, complete my apprenticeship, and earn my Journeyman Electrician license. I’m proud of those accomplishments — but deep down, I’ve always felt a pull back toward my intellectual passions: mathematics, statistics, music, and programming.

Data science and machine learning feel like the natural next step — blending many of my interests into a field full of discovery, challenge, and opportunity.

This page will be where I document my learning journey, share my projects, and hopefully inspire others along the way.

Stay tuned — the best is yet to come!
